Please keep in mind, the polygraph exam is the recognized standard for the detection of deception. The exam is a highly regarded and accurate process used extensively across the US Government, Law Enforcement agencies and the private sector (under certain circumstances). The polygraph instrument is not a lie detector (test) by itself, however the polygraph process, to detect deception, has been proven to be extremely effective to determine if someone is being deceptive (or not) to specific and relevant issues. The polygraph process involves both the highly qualified examiner and the cooperation of the examinee. The success of the polygraph process depends on the relationship established between the examiner and the examinee; the specificity of the test questions; the physiology and psychological condition of the examinee; the environment; the recordable instrument; and the expert interpretation of the results through a series of tests. Examinations are designed to explore an examinee's truthfulness to a previous act or behavior while examining them to a set of test standards set-forth by the American Polygraph Association. As a member of the APA, Dr. Stainback pledges to follow rules and regulations to the highest standards of moral, ethical, and professional conduct.
